Evaluation of Feed Value of Sprouted Barley Fodder as an Alternative Feed Ingredient

The article discusses a study aimed at evaluating the nutritional value of sprouted barley fodder (SBF) as an alternative feed ingredient for ruminant production. The study compared the chemical composition, amino acid profile, and mineral content of SBF with cornflakes and alfalfa hay. Results showed that SBF had higher levels of crude protein, acid detergent insoluble crude protein, and neutral detergent insoluble crude protein compared to cornflake and alfalfa hay. The amino acid content of SBF was also found to be different, with higher levels of glutamate but lower levels of methionine and cysteine compared to cornflake and alfalfa hay. SBF was also found to be a good source of minerals, including ferrous, zinc, magnesium, and sodium. The study concluded that SBF could be a better alternative feed ingredient for ruminants compared to cornflakes or alfalfa hay.
