To predict the future of the beef and dairy industry, one must look at the future of the water supply. We are seeing predictive signals today that could be far worse than the 2022 drought, which forced a mass liquidation of herds driven by record-high alfalfa prices exceeding $600 per ton.
The data from that period is sobering: by 2023, the beef cow herd reached its lowest point in decades.
