Beyond the Drought: Investing in the Future of Water-Resilient Agriculture

"If you want to predict the future, be very aware of what's happening in the present." — Laurence Overmire

To predict the future of the beef and dairy industry, one must look at the future of the water supply. We are seeing predictive signals today that could be far worse than the 2022 drought, which forced a mass liquidation of herds driven by record-high alfalfa prices exceeding $600 per ton.

The data from that period is sobering: by 2023, the beef cow herd reached its lowest point in decades. In 2022 alone, approximately 3.95 million beef cows were slaughtered—the highest number since the USDA began tracking the data in 1986. This was not a standard business cycle; it was a structural collapse of the breeding herd because feed costs exceeded the animals' value.

Today, in the Southwest, we are facing an all-time record-low snowpack and near-record-low lake and reservoir levels. As of April 20, 2026, Lake Mead is at 32%, and Lake Powell is at 24% of capacity. Now comes the dry months with little to no snowpack.

While water supplies are shrinking, demand is exploding. Southwest states like AZ, UT, NM, TX, and NV are seeing massive population growth. Simultaneously, we are seeing an explosion of water-intensive infrastructure. For example, the new $44 billion chip production center in Texas is projected to consume between 5 million and 10 million gallons of water per day, alongside hundreds of new data centers that will evaporate millions of gallons more.

Severe cutbacks in the Southwest are inevitable. When the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation looks for where to cut the Colorado River allocations by the October 1st "hard deadline," they will target the highest water users: livestock feed. Alfalfa and grass hay are currently the #1 and #3 water-consuming crops, accounting for more than half of the water use in the Southwest.

Faced with the choice, where would a regulator cut: people, chip production, data centers, or alfalfa?

This creates a massive market opportunity for Sprouting Gear Inc. By providing a climate-controlled, low-water alternative to traditional hay, Sprouting Gear Inc. is positioning itself for the future and to survive the coming crisis. It is the ideal time to launch our pilot project in Arvin.

To validate this projection, you will find dozens of reports released in just the last two months. Knowledge is power when investing; even if you do not have time to watch these in-depth research articles, the titles and summaries tell the story:

"The data points cited in these reports—including specific reservoir capacities, historical snowpack lows, and aquifer depletion rates—are independently verifiable through primary source data provided by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and the National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). These reports translate complex federal and state hydrological datasets into a clear assessment of the immediate structural risks facing Western water infrastructure as of April 2026."
